Several nuclear power plants are currently under construction, including the fourth nuclear power plant in Taiwan and numerous stations in China.

To ease the public's concern over the potential threat to our nation if disaster occurs, President Ma Ying-jeou expressed his hope of working with the Mainland on nuclear energy safety issues to cut the risk to the lowest.

Mainland China is now building many nuclear power plants.

We hope the two sides can work together to minimize the safety threats.

Because if anything happens, it would not just affect one side, nor the two sides, but the whole region.

Making a comment for the first time on the recent anti-nuclear power plant demonstration by environmental activists, President Ma says that while no one wishes to see nuclear crisis, it's necessary to weigh the importance of the abolishment of nuclear energy and the reduction of carbon dioxide.

The president suggests that the slogan of anti-nuclear activists be changed from quote " I love Taiwan and don't want nuclear crisis" to quote "I love Taiwan; I want nuclear safety."

For the government, the top priority now is to be prepared for nuclear safety and rest the public's doubts.
