With the growing public fear over Japan's radiation crisis, here on CTS, we are introducing you several companies that are certified by the Atomic Energy Council, in which they have the expertise in removing even the slightest radiation on your belongings. Technician Pan Hsi-lien has more than 30 years of experience in radiation elimination, and frequently works with National Taiwan University's laboratories and Taipower. To test an item for radiation, Pan first swipes its surface with alcohol-soaked cotton. When the meter of the radiation sensor exceeds 180, the item is radioactive. Sealing tape, which is 90% effective, is used to remove radiation dust from the surface of the item. Meanwhile, clothing that is contaminated with the dust is washed in a special washing machine. Experts say that surface micro-radiation can be disposed of with water, but corrosive solvents have to be used when radiation seeps below the surface of items. As the tools used during the cleaning process become contaminated, they have to be properly disposed. Improper disposal of radioactive materials may lead to lawsuits and fines. It costs around 6,000 NT to clean and process a suitcase-sized item. ◆ 追蹤更多華視影音及圖文新聞: 1.用Plurk追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤 2.用Twitter追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤
