In a move to prevent last month's deadly nightclub fire in Taichung from repeating, the Legislature passed amendments to the Fire Service Act yesterday, mandating all indoor performances involving fire to acquire permission in advance. Violators may face fines starting from 30,000 up to 150,000 NT dollars. In addition, the release of sky lanterns in the future will also require permits from the authorities, and failure to comply may lead to a maximum penalty of 3,000 NT dollars.
