The Kaohsiung City's Home for the Disabled has established the island's first institution specially designed to accommodate mentally challenged elders, and has since released 20 beds for patients that are between the age of 50 to 65 for free.

This new service is set to provide assistance for people who have no one to depend on, as well as to alleviate the burden on families.

Here we are at the Home for the Disabled of Kaohsiung City.

Each room has five beds and individual closets for personal belongings.

These rooms are for seriously mentally disabled between the age of 50 to 65.

One of the features is that it has a room for relatives.

And they are welcomed for short-term stay.

This could save the travel hours of family members and provide a sense of comfort to the individuals staying in the center

Since the facility is a way to minimize chances of family tragedies, taking care of families with aging parents has been on the top priority list of social welfare authorities.

Besides basic accommodations, there's a place for leisure, physical and medical activities, to provide mentally disabled seniors better care so they can feel relieved and comfortable living in their second home.
