In Kaohsiung, the city government is determined to avoid another Fanapi-scaled disaster by taking precautions early this time.

Typhoon Fanapi caused severe flooding neart the Kaohsiung ports on September 19, and residents blamed the disaster on the barriers constructed by the navy.

As Typhoon Megi nears, officials are afraid of a repeat of the previous incident and have agreed to tear down part of the barrier.

The military has given its promise to tear down the iron barrier by Friday.

In addition, holes will be drilled into the concrete to improve drainage.

Both of these tasks are to ease public concern that spawned from the 919 flooding disaster.

While everyone is still on edge from the 919 disaster, and the Kaohsiung City administration is even more cautious about letting their guard down this time, suspending school and work in the afternoon and taking stringent safety precautions against the coming typhoon.
